About the Project

CODEDU wants to draw attention to the value of coding in education and the relationship between this educational method with students’ cognitive abilities and absorption of knowledge. CODEDU’s highly detailed curriculum for teachers will allow them to learn how to engage students in the learning process, by introducing an innovative teaching method. Also, a course of study and practice, which will be available on a gamified e-learning platform aimed at students, will provide coding principles and knowledge for the operation of Arduino modules, which will gain increasing attention for automating numerous tasks. The curriculum and the course will be created using the most recent data from academic articles and real-world experience. By the end of the project, innovators at schools will be supported with a state-of-the-art toolkit and students will have improved their levels of creativity, attitude, and motivation via the integrated coding activities while producing many creative ideas in coding applications to solve various problems encountered in daily life. Knowledge of coding and microcontroller systems, like the Arduino, is increasingly in demand across many industries, thus CODEDU will provide students with career opportunities. Arduinos are considered an introduction to robotics and a lot of studies show that robotics will be a big part of our future lives, changing a lot of aspects of our daily routine. CODEDU aims to provide new teaching methodologies to upper-primary and secondary-level teachers also improving their communication skills. Simultaneously students will be educated and cultivated with critical thinking to ensure their wellbeing and future professional development.

Coding has a direct influence on student performance as it introduces new innovative methodologies and experiences in learning procedures.

CODEDU strives to create a cutting-edge gamified e-learning platform with an innovative curriculum and a toolkit for educators in this field. Through online workshops and the use of Arduino modules, secondary-level, upper-primary students and teachers will be introduced to coding and robotics, an upcoming and promising technology in school education. CODEDU’s specific objectives are:

1. to enable school educators and schools to spark students’ interest in STEM subjects such as science, technology, engineering, and mathematics;

2. to improve and innovate the educational system to the digital age;

3. to enable the students to follow a resourceful upskilling pathway so they can gain the necessary competencies and skills that are in high demand in the tech industry, preparing them for future careers in technology and engineering;

4. to provide students with a hands-on learning experience that helps to develop problem-solving, critical thinking and creativity skills;

5. to address the different needs and challenges of many schools at a European level;

6. to list the advantages of employing innovative learning models in schools;

7. to establish a European network of teachers, exchanging knowledge and methodologies about Arduinos and robotics;

8. to promote an extensive multi-agency collaboration between various social service providers and the educational system to support their digital transition.

Both during the project’s lifecycle and after its finalization, CODEDU is expected to yield a wide range of impactful results for schools. It aims to help students adapt to coding through an innovative curriculum, teach them how to utilize Arduinos and provide teachers with an all-inclusive toolbox. It, also, intends to encourage teamwork, creativity and attentiveness in the classroom, improve educators’ competencies and boost innovative learning methods, to foster innovators at schools. CODEDU’s objectives will be reached through the creation of the following concrete results

1. A synthesis report on coding and new educational methods that compiles the results of extensive field and desk research activities carried out in (6) European nations;

2. A cutting-edge teacher’s training curriculum and related materials for the introduction of coding and Arduino;

3. A user-friendly gamified e-learning platform that will give the project’s target groups access to the training materials and other training resources, like a compilation of open-source coding projects for Arduino, which will be added;

4. An online forum integrated into the e-Learning platform, where teachers and students can communicate by exchanging teaching methodologies;

5. An online workshop space with Arduino modules in the e-Learning platform, to provide flexible scheduling, accessible content, and the ability to re-watch or review material at any time;

6. Α Toolkit, which will guide how to use the project’s tools as well as other pertinent resources to assist European upper-primary and secondary-level teachers.
